About

My name is Brittani D'Ewart

Music has always been a part of my life. Throughout my life I have taken piano lessons, and as a child I sang in a children's singing group called Gingerbread Kids. When I was in high school I took a guitar class and I loved it.

In college I graduated with my undergraduate degree in Recreational Therapy from Brigham Young University. I was able to do an internship at NYU Medical Center working with children with disabilities. Years later, I continued my education and earned a Master's in Professional Communication from Weber State University. Since that time I have gained experience teaching public speaking as an adjunct instructor, computer science at an elementary school, Sound Beginnings, and Let's Play Music.

My Story

When my kids were very young I had a friend tell me about Sound Beginnings. As soon as I found out about it I wanted to learn more. I found a teacher near me and took my kids to a class and fell in love with those classes from the very beginning. I love connecting with my kids through music.

A few years later we moved and I wanted to get them into Let's Play Music classes but there weren't any near me so I decided to become a Let's Play Music teacher. I am passionate about music and teaching. The thing I love most about being a Let's Play Music teacher is that I get to teach my students college level music theory through full body movement, fun, and play! It's amazing watching my students make connections, and discover something new about the language of music.

About

Meet Melissa!

Hello, my name is Melissa Alvey. I come from a family where music has always been a huge legacy passed down to each generation. As a child I watched my mother play the violin and piano and knew I wanted to learn those instruments as well. Along with taking violin and piano lessons, I have participated in choirs in elementary and junior highschool, junior high orchestra, and a handful of musical productions. My studies include Elementary Education and Psychology at Weber State University, but took a break from college to focus on starting a family.

Melissa's Story

All my life I knew I was going to be a teacher. I officially started a short session of one-on-one piano lessons before serving a religious mission. I began again after having my first child. When my second born was about a year old, a friend invited me to try out a Sound Beginnings sample class. We were instantly hooked! Flash forward a few years, and now I have kids in Let's Play Music and Sound Beginnings. It didn't take long after starting classes with my kids for me to want to teach this program myself. Let's Play Music teaches music concepts in ways I wish I was taught when I was a child. I love the colorful, movement oriented style, and am constantly seeing the benefits in my own kids! I can't wait to meet your children and instill a love of music in their lives!
